SPOLIN BASED ACTING CLASSES - "Get out of your head and into the space..." - Paul Sills
I will be offering a round of Spolin-based improvisation acting 2-hour workshops starting this Monday, October 8th. Class size is small and is for adults only. My improvisation classes are useful for a variety of people who are looking to improve their audition, callbacks or to build on their current techniques. My former students are working professionals in St. Louis, LA, Chicago and New York City. (Classes are also helpful for other types of performers who need become more spontaneous. )
This is not an improv class where I teach the students how to be "funny" or instruct them on how to tell jokes with an interesting character voice. In my class you will work on building core PHYSICAL skills rooted in Viola Spolin's work. Spolin's work has been used by Mike Nichols, Elaine May, Avery Schrieber, Valerie Harper, Alan Alda and many others. I have worked directly with Viola's son Paul Sills over the past decade on understanding his mother's work.
Improvisation acting provides an excellent language for any actor to get instant critical feed back on their authenticity. Excellent for film actors or stage actors trying to make that transition to camera work.
We will work for 2 hours every Monday night starting 6:00 PM at the fabulous Black Cat Theatre at 2810 Sutton Boulevard in Maplewood. Plenty of safe parking and places to eat before or after class. Actors that complete my workshops are invited to continue a special invitation-only Improvisation Theater performance based ensemble to perform at the Black Cat Theater throughout the year. (In a Second City style revue.)
Cost for this 5-week series of workshops is $125. (When I offered this class at COCA it was almost double this price so you are getting a real savings!)
