Hey all,
In my random meandering across the big scary internet I've recently come across a few interesting improv related Podcasts and videos:
First off is Zenprov
www.cia.libsyn.com/
Talking in 30 minute increments on the art and craft of improvisation and relating it to Zen. Everything from trust and characters - to narrative long form so far - haven't had the chance to peruse all the audio files yet - but some seem really interesting (and heck if you like improv and listening to things like books on tape - booyah).
Next the FRACAS improv video Podcast
www.2nimprov.com/Fracas/podcast.html
Improv and the entertainment industry. The current episode can be viewed on the page, and features part 1 of an interview with Melora Hardin (The Office), Angela Kinsey (iO, The Office), Michael Bunin (iO, My Boys), Jordan Black (The Groundlings, Halfway Home, For Your Consideration), and Andrew Friedman (The Groundlings, Curb Your Enthusiasm) on the subject of improvisation and the entertainment industry.
iO Chicago Theater To GO video podcasts
podcast.iochicago.net/wordpress/
Some amusing videos produced by the theater and it's performers - along with some amazing full length shows including:
Let them Ho's Fight (great ensemble starring a former St. Louis improviser and friend of mine Mort Burke)
Messing with Ike (Susan Messing performing her amazing two person show with Ike Barinholtz)
TJ & Dave (perhaps one of the single greatest improv shows to be currently seen in Chicago on a regular basis - by two top performers).
So if you've been wondering what some of the top shows are like up here - give them a gander
The Finally (for now - mwuahaha)
From the UCB Theater in New York:
Project Improviser:
projectimproviser.com/
Reality TV meets improv with....interesting results. UCB theater holds a contest for 8 lucky improvisers to get a chance to play wit some of the top teams at the theater. They are formed into a team and and asked to perform a new format ever week while judged by the Artistic director and top performers - they are given improv challenges for immunity & at the end of every show someone is "tagged out"
While the whole idea is perhaps completely against almost everything the idea of improvisation and ensemble is about - the performers never become petty and always play as a team - and hidden in their is some very great advice about improv (and a number of amusing moments).
Note all of these are available on iTunes as FREE downloads as well - just search the podcast section.
